This year marks the 15<sup>th<\/sup> annual World Autism Awareness Day.<\/p>\n<p>This day is celebrated to increase understanding and acceptance of autistic people, and contribute to making a difference, by being more accepting, and educating ourselves and those around us about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Learn more about Autism:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A developmental disorder that affects behaviour and communication, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may be diagnosed at any age, with more than 3 million new cases diagnosed each year, occurring in 1 out every 54 births.<\/p>\n<p>Autistic people may show developmental differences while growing up in the way they behave, communicate and interact.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Autism Signs and Symptoms<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Some of the early <a href=\"https:\/\/spectacokids.com\/autism-signs-and-symptoms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning signs to look out<\/a> for as your child is growing and developing are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Delayed speech and language skills<\/li>\n<li>Repeating words and phrases continually<\/li>\n<li>Non-responsive to name<\/li>\n<li>Resistant to any slight change<\/li>\n<li>Sensitivity to sound, smell, light taste, touch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Signs of Autism in Girls<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>While some girls may have clear symptoms of\u00a0ASD,\u00a0it may be harder to see the signs in others. Autism is particularly <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/spectacokids.com\/signs-of-autism-in-girls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">common among girls at the high-functioning<\/a><\/strong> end of the spectrum.
